Repair or Replace a Heating Zone Damper
Repair may be practical when the damper blade and duct section are sound but the actuator, linkage, wiring, end switch, thermostat signal, or control-panel output can be corrected. Testing the complete heating call helps avoid replacing a damper that is not receiving the proper command.
Replacement is more appropriate when the blade is damaged, the shaft binds, the actuator is obsolete, access is severely limited, or the damper size and zoning layout create repeated airflow problems. Why do heating zones respond in the wrong order?
